BiographyPalomino Professional Services, Inc. relocated to Whidbey island in 2008. Brian Strelow is the president of the company and moved his family from Roy, WA where he ran a successful practice for over 10 years. Brian and his wife Nicole fell in love with the island after numerous visits to Brian's parents in Freeland. Brian has spent nearly a lifetime around horses, growing up near Black Diamond, WA. During college, Brian was captain of the rodeo team at Oregon State University and spent summers working on cattle, horse and guest ranches throughout the west. It was during this time Brian began his interest in horseshoeing. After learning some basics, Brian enrolled at Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School after graduation from OSU. After successful completion of horseshoeing school, Brian moved back to Washington to begin an informal apprenticeship with a well-known race horse farrier.
Brian has been active in both the state and national farrier associations. He holds the highest level of farrier certification available and continues to challenge himself with horseshoeing competitions. He spent almost 3 years hand making his shoes the traditional way from barstock and is well respected among his peers. He has been asked to share his knowledge and skill with other farriers, students, veterinarians and horse owners. Brian's farrier practice focuses on performance horses and therapeutic work. He now lives with his wife Nicole and their two children in Coupeville WA. Back to topResumé
TestimonialsSuzy Elliot, Aspen Farms Eventing My husband, Jonathan Elliott, and I are International CCI**** riders and run a training and sales business as well as hosting a recognized event on our property in Yelm, WA. When we moved our operation from Florida in 2004, one of our major concerns was whether we would be able to find a farrier of the quality we were used to on the east coast. Good shoeing is an essential part of maintaining a horse, especially at the upper levels. We struggled with this for a year before meeting Brian Strelow. I was immediately impressed not only with his quality of work, but also his professionalism, knowledge and organization. Over the last five years, I have gained tremendous respect for his ability to “fix” poor quality or unhealthy feet. I now have total peace of mind regarding our shoeing program. I am confident that Brain will show up on time, be courteous to our clients, patient with our horses, and do a fantastic job shoeing them, regardless of whether they are retired or aiming for a major competition. Brian keeps himself current with any new products or ideas, and tests his skills by competing in shoeing contests. He is open to discussing your horses individual needs and any concerns you may have. Any vets or farriers I encounter at competitions or during pre-purchase exams comment on how well shod my horses are. Brian is on par with the best farriers we had access to on the east coast, but at a much more affordable price. Brian is an essential part of our program and I am grateful to have him on board. Sheryl Hansen, The Hansen Farm I have had the good fortune to have Brian Strelow working as my farrier since 2006. I have a small dressage and eventing barn in Enumclaw with anywhere between 8 and 16 horses in my care. I have a few high performance horses, a few pleasure horses and even a few pack horses. Brian applies his skills and high degree of perfection to every horse I bring in the barn for him to work on. No matter the quality of the horse, his exceptional workmanship and high standards for correct balance of the foot and fit of the shoe remain the same. Brian is very punctual and in the rare instances that he has been delayed he has always called to notify me of the delay. Given that he travels from his home on Whidbey Island all the way to my farm in Enumclaw, that is a feat in itself. Brian is exceptionally good at handling the horses as he is a true horseman, not just a good farrier. He can easily tell the difference between a horse reacting out of fear and one that is just being a bit naughty and respond to them with a fair and correct degree of ‘correction’ for the behavior. His calm demeanor settles even the most nervous of horses and those horses build their trust in him with every visit. I have horses that came to my barn that ‘needed’ to be sedated to have their feet done and after a couple of visits we have been able to stop using any tranquilizers or lip chains. Through the kind and correct handling those horses received they learned to stand happily and calmly in the cross ties. Brian’s participation in competitions and clinics show his desire to increase his knowledge and skills. This is evidence of his understanding that even the best need to keep learning when the opportunity presents itself. He is a man of tremendous talent in his craft, strength of character, modest ego and a super sense of humor…he is a true pleasure to have working for us. I hope you can be fortunate enough to experience the quality and professionalism of Palomino Professional Horseshoeing. Please feel free to contact me regarding this recommendation. D`Ann Whiton I have been in horses all my life. My discipline was hunters and dressage horses. I’ve had some great farriers and some not so great. In this day and age it's difficult to find a knowledgeable farrier who really knows how to hot shoe and does a terrific job. Brian Strelow is tops. Brian is always on time, very conscientious, and does a computer read out on your horses feet. Give Brian a try, and you will be his client. Back to top |
